Multi-Sensor Tracking
Traditionally, four detectors manage the four arms of a signalized intersection individually and independently, without exchanging information with one another. This can result in blind spots due to occlusion, and the inner part of the intersection is often challenging to monitor.
Super Resolution AI Tracking—Seamless Tracking at Intersections revolutionizes traffic management by fusing up to 4 sensors and combining their field of view. The data of all sensors is processed into one consolidated object list in real-time.
The communication among the sensors enables Seamless Tracking of all traffic participants throughout the entire intersection, including the inner part.
Super Resolution AI Tracking means
- Combining super resolution for radar detection
- With AI for tracking and perception
- On powerful new processors
Seamless Tracking at intersections means
- Precise time synchronization of all sensors
- Combining the data from multiple radar sensors on raw data level
- Applying Super Resolution AI Tracking on that combined data
Multi-Sensor Tracking
With our patented multi-sensor tracking technology, all approaches and the inner intersection area are covered by overlapping fields of view of multiple sensors. Any object is detected at a 200m (656ft) distance and will be tracked seamlessly. This leads to one single object list available in real-time for Automated Vehicles (AV).
The Seamless Tracking through multi-sensor fusion is patented by smartmicro.
- Increased system performance
- Higher detection & classification accuracy
- Increased safety for all road users
- Covering the intersection area without blind spots
- The inner part is fully covered, allowing turning movement counts

Single-Sensor Tracking
One sensor enables multi-lane stop bar and advanced detection for up to 200m (656ft) range. The sensors reliably detect both stopped and moving objects, however, occlusion may happen.
- Tracking uses data from only one sensor
- Detection and tracking software run on sensor
- Application is limited to the one approach
Multi-Sensor Tracking
With a set-up of four sensors, all approaches of an intersection are covered. While the detection software runs on each sensor, the tracking software running on COM HUB uses the data from all four sensors. Application now covers all approaches, including the inner part of the intersection.
- Overlapping fields of view create redundancy
- Handles crossing traffic very well
- No occlusion
Turning Movement Counts
The overlapping fields of view allow Seamless Tracking over the entire intersection. Any object is detected at 200m (656ft) distance and will be tracked seamlessly over the full intersection, while its object (tracking) ID remains the same. This gives valuable information on travel paths of all traffic participants, including precise turning movement counts.
Reliable turning movement counts can be used to improve the efficiency of the intersection in the long-term, improve the traffic flow andincrease the safety of all road users, especially Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs).
The data of all sensors processed into one single object list in real-time additionally delivers precise data for V2X applications, especially for autonomous vehicles (AV).
