In the agreement between NXP and smartmicro, these products will serve as Scalable Corner and Front Radar Solutions for OEMs and 1st Tier automotive suppliers solutions, will have RED, FCC and other approvals, and will be manufactured in volume at smartmicro facilities by early 2021.
These “reference radar” sensors include a 200m range forward-looking 4D/UHD radar with 2 degree angular resolution, and a 130m range 4D/UHD corner radar with wide field of view. Both models will feature azimuth and elevation measurement, multi-mode and multi-band operation, self-diagnose, interference suppression and patented direct unambiguous speed technology.
The sensors will represent the highest radar- and computation performance-to-cost ratio built as single board solution, and can be regarded to have automotive B sample maturity and ASIL fitness.
smartmicro, the Braunschweig-, Germany-based specialist in automotive radar technology with over 20 years of experience in this field, had pioneered automotive corner radar technology as early as 2003 when we developed the first long range corner radar for the lane change assist function to go to mass production in 2005 with Audi and VW. Today more than 140 employees are developing latest front, corner and imaging radar technology. smartmicro delivers engineering services for automotive 1st tier suppliers and runs own production lines for high performance automotive products as well as for traffic management (ITS) solutions.
NXP Semiconductors, a leader in the Automotive Radar industry, has selected smartmicro because of its proven track record in developing and productizing cutting edge radar sensors for Advanced Driving Assistance Systems and Automated Driving. Building on successful prior cooperation on Automotive Front and Corner Radar sensors we continue to deliver state of the art Automotive Radar technology to our customers.
