VRU Protection

Recent studies by the US Department of Transportation indicate that pedestrian fatalities caused by traffic accidents increased by 53% in the US in the last decade.

In 2018, approximately 74% of pedestrian fatalities occurred in urban areas, 89% in metropolitan areas. These numbers clearly show that the protection of Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), like pedestrian and bicyclists, is one of the most important topics for traffic management.

For us at smartmicro, such dramatic numbers confirm that our daily efforts in developing sensors for increased traffic safety is of highest relevance for all road users. Our sensors can be installed at intersections to reliably detect and track pedestrian and bicyclists. Via V2I (Vehicle to Infrastructure) communication, the sensor data can be sent to connected vehicles to provide them with real-time position of the VRUs at the intersection ahead.
