Smart Mobility in Action: Shymkent Leads with Intelligent Transport

Learn how Shymkent revolutionized traffic flow with 200+ smartmicro sensors and a citywide Intelligent Transport System.

In 2024, the city of Shymkent, Kazakhstan took a major step toward smarter urban mobility by deploying a citywide Intelligent Transport System (ITS) — powered by smartmicro sensor technology.

The Challenge:
Rapid urban growth and rising traffic volumes led to congestion and inefficient flow at key intersections.

The Solution:
Partnering with smartmicro, Shymkent implemented a scalable ITS, including:

  • 200+ UMRR-11 Type 132 radar sensors for stop bar detection, queue length estimation, and vehicle counting
  • Integration with traffic controllers for adaptive signal timing
  • Real-time traffic monitoring and incident response

By the end of 2024, 244 intersections were connected — optimizing traffic flow, improving safety, and enabling faster emergency response
