Advancing Urban Mobility: City of Braunschweig delegation visits smartmicro

Representatives of the City of Braunschweig visited smartmicro to discuss the future of urban mobility and the role of radar-based sensor technology in modern traffic infrastructure.
We welcomed several representatives from the City of Braunschweig to our headquarters. Among them were Mayor Thorsten Kornblum and Gerold Leppa, Head of the Department for Urban Planning, Transportation, Construction, and Economy, as well as Jörg Meyer, Managing Director of Braunschweig Zukunft GmbH.

The exchange focused on one key topic: the growing complexity of urban mobility. Cities must balance the needs of many different road users – each with legitimate expectations regarding safety, efficiency, and accessibility. Managing these competing demands is one of the central challenges of modern traffic planning. Intelligent sensor technologies such as radar can help address these challenges by providing reliable real-time traffic data and enabling more adaptive traffic infrastructure.
During the discussions, we also shared insights into several ongoing test installations in Braunschweig, where our radar technology is currently being evaluated under real traffic conditions. These projects demonstrate how sensor-based systems can support smarter traffic signal control, improve traffic flow, and create a better balance between different road users.

Following the discussions, the delegation toured our production and testing facilities. Our guests gained insights into the development, assembly, and quality assurance processes behind radar systems that are now used in traffic infrastructure projects around the world.
The visit highlighted the strong interest in how innovative sensor technologies developed in Braunschweig can help address local urban mobility challenges. Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
