Radar Detection in Groningen: From Pilot to Full Intersection Deployment
At the Ruischerbrug intersection in Groningen, the Province of Groningen, Verkeersinfo, and smartmicro worked together to evaluate radar detection in a real traffic-control environment.
The project shows how radar can support future-ready traffic light detection, from the first pilot stage with UMRR-11 Type 132 to the full intersection deployment with TOPGRD, COM HUB Relay 24, and Relay 32 XP Module.
In the video, Willem from the Province of Groningen, Guus from Verkeersinfo, and Robin Collaert, Director Business Solutions at smartmicro, share their perspectives on the project: why radar detection was tested, how the system was validated, and what the results mean for future traffic management.
The full case study gives a detailed look at the project background, technical setup, validation process, and results
