Smart traffic detection in Hamburg
A new Test Intersection in Hamburg
At the intersection of Holstenhofweg and Ziethenstraße in Hamburg-Wandsbek, Hamburg Verkehrs Anlagen GmbH (HHVA) partnered with smartmicro to test how radar technology can improve safety and efficiency in urban traffic.
The installation of three TOPGRD sensors and one COM HUB now enables:
- Reliable detection of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians
- Precise monitoring of turning maneuvers
- Non-intrusive use of existing infrastructure; no disruptive roadworks needed
- Stable performance in all weather and light conditions
Despite site-specific challenges, including limited visibility on a bridge slope and obstructions from existing infrastructure, the project team found effective solutions together, ensuring the system was up and running quickly.
This project is part of Hamburg’s strategy to test innovative traffic management technologies and marks another step toward safer, smarter, and more sustainable urban mobility.
